so first of all- True Blood isn't on right now, but after finding the icon I have I couldn't NOT set it to my default. Vampires and magic have always been my favorites things. I mean--I liked vampires BEFORE it was a cool thing. And man this icon- fang porn. NO ONE does fang porn like Alexander Skarsgard. *swoon* the fantasies those blue eyes and little fangs bring to mind are downright sinful. Doesn't help that True Blood fandom has some of the most graphic, kinky porn fic out there. AHHHH! I LOVE FANG PORN!!!! Anyone else as addicted as I am?
Ok, now that it's hotter in here....let me voice my thoughts on the latest Merlin episode:
AHHHHHHHH!!!! The whole episode was just awesome!! I loved:
*A magical creature finally being good and helping poor Merlin
*Arthur's concern for Merlin's well-being
*Merlin being comfortable using his magic in front of Lancelot
*Lancelot getting to meet the dragon
*Killy showing some love for the 'young warlock'
*The knights being so happy to see Merlin alive
*Merlin controlling the wyverns- Merlin using his dragon lord powers is just HOTT
*Arthur, Merlin and Lancelot's bravery
*The look on Lancelots face as stepped into the veil *guh*
What I didn't like:
*Gwen's whole story was interesting, but totally unbelievable. There is NO WAY a servant, much less a WOMEN would be allowed to speak at court. She probably would have been punished just for asking. Ridiculous!
*JUST HAVE ARTHUR AND MERLIN HUG ALREADY DAMMIT!!!!!!!
CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!!!!
Been a good weekend in general. Got all my homework done and my free for fall stuff completed and ready to send off. Now I just have to focus on the two fics that have to be done by this weekend. Once I get through this week I can start to write my Merlin Hols fic-- YAY!!!
Got our prompts for teamcanon today. We did super great in the prompt race and it was a ton of fun GO TEAM CANON!!!!
Hope you guys all had an awesome week too!

Date: 2011-10-10 05:01 am (UTC)YES! I'm realizing there is a definite lack of good magical people/things on the show, no wonder Uther thinks magic is evil! But just YES to everything else you said, I loved Arthur's concern for Merlin and the scenes with Lancelot and Merlin! ♥♥

Date: 2011-10-10 11:46 am (UTC)And I agree with you re. the Merlin episode. Especially what you said about Gwen. They are focusing on making her a future queen that they've crossed the line for what's reasonable.
Arthur''s, the knights' and Kilgarrah's love for Merlin = <333333333333333

Date: 2011-10-10 01:54 pm (UTC)Yeah, that are trying to all of a sudden be like 'oh hey look- Gwen is a cool character and she will make a great Queen' even though the story makes no sense.
I do have to say that I'm slightly irritated with Lancelot being so brave for one reason: when he comes back I feel like they're going to use his supposed death to make it like Gwen was so overcome with relief that she had a momentary lapse in judgement and betrays Arthur.....I don't like it when writers give characters excuses for their bad behavior. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my first thought when he jumped in the veil.
With the love everyone has for Merlin I'm really hoping we get a magic reveal by the end of this season. I just...I just NEED Arthur to know. It's killing me lol

Date: 2011-10-10 03:52 pm (UTC)It started with that short speech in "Moment of Truth" about Hunith's cooking and then it was that cleavage scene in "Curse of Cornelius Sigan". I can't take anything serious who starts with porridge and boobs. Nope, sorry.
I've heard something about a cursed bracelet as well. But that was at youtube so I wouldn't take it seriously. I hope that she betrays him a few episodes after his return so we can see that she realized her feelings both while he was gone and then when he returned. I don't want that: "OMG! YOU'RE ALIVE! GIMME A KISS!"
Magic reveal, magic reveal, where art thou, magic reveal?

Date: 2011-10-10 05:01 pm (UTC)I LOVED that they showed how fond Kigharrah has gotten of Merlin...I think we saw it before, but it's great that he actually came out and SAID it. (Now if only they would get Arthur to do the same! *G*)
But so far this series, lovely Merlin/Arthur interaction. I hope it doesn't change.

Date: 2011-10-10 05:28 pm (UTC)I hope the Merlin/Arthur interaction doesn't change either. They are just so adorable, even if it is all angsty. I just want a hug though!!! They could give us that much!

Date: 2011-10-10 07:00 pm (UTC)My favourite vampire novel of all time is Interview with the Vampire...I read it when I was about 12 and from then on I was totally into vampires. Back then I thought Louis was WONDERFUL, and romantic and perfect...
Now I read it, and I can see Lestat's point. Louis seems like a terrible whiner *G* But I still love him. *G*
I'm not so keen on Rice's other books, though I've read a lot of them. Once she stopped letting anyone edit her work, she ended up getting terribly self-indulgent and overblown.
I love the Jack Fleming novels too...the first couple are the bext, and then they get a bit repetitive, but the first couple are great. He's turned in a vampire in 1920's Chicago, amid all the gangsters and what-not, so it's a bit of a different set-up than usual.
What's your favourite vampire book(s)?
They should definitely hug. They ALMOST hugged when he reappeared after being ill...just after Gwaine hugged him. I like to think that they hugged off-screen. *LOL*

Date: 2011-10-11 02:27 pm (UTC)I've read the Night World books, some of the Vampire Academy (working on those now), Sookie Stackhouse Novels and Twilight. I've seen the Interview with a Vampire movie, but I have yet to read the book. I think my favorite was the Twilight series. Regardless of what people say about them, I really do enjoy Meyers writing style. And honestly, the books are much more adult than the movies.
My favorite take on vampire lore would have to be from the Sookie Stackhouse novels (these are what True Blood is based off of). They turn someone into a vampire by draining all their blood and then feeding them theirs, vampire blood has healing qualities, and vampires can inherit different traits (like one of them can fly which is just so cool) they can't walk in the sun, silver hurts them and they're inherently violent and sexual creatures. The books are also really interesting cus the principle of them is that Japan made synthetic blood so the vampires came out to the general public and walk among us. They also include other supernatural creatures like werewolves, witches, fairies etc and the main character Sookie is a telepath. Harris isn't a very good writer, but I think the world she created is quite fantastic.
I somehow usually end up on way opposite sides of the book spectrum. I read a lot of supernatural crap that's more of a young adult fiction that I wouldn't call quality literature, and then I'll turn around and read all of Charles Dickens stuff (even his not-so-popular stories). Granted, I always hate it when I get out of practice cus it seems to take forever for my brain to adjust to how they talked back then- so much more wordy and eloquant. Not to mention we don't even use half those words any more. When I read Martin Chuzzelwit I think I read each page five times haha.
Right now I'm reading the Fallen series by Lauren Kate and it's really good. Sadly it's taking me like two months to read a book I could finish in a day if I had the time :(

Date: 2011-10-12 05:45 pm (UTC)I asked him if they've got Vampire Diaries, and he's pretty sure they have, so I've asked him to borrow the first series for me.
I read all the Twilight books. I know they get a lot of stick, and they ARE bad. But....I've got to say I thoroughly enjoyed them, I couldn't put them down and tended to read each one more or less in one sitting. They were just such good FUN.
I didn't like the movies much though. I've seen the first movie and was bored to tears...I think a lot of it is because I just don't "get" Patterson's appeal *LOL* If it was someone nicer...Colin Morgan perhaps? *LOL* I might have loved it.
I can see why you like the Sookie books, it sounds as though the world she created is very involving.
Yeah, I read all sort of books too, pulp fun stuff and quite "good" stuff. I've never really been into Dickens though...I've read about six of his books I think, and I did enjoy A Tale of Two Cities, but I don't really like the way he writes.
At the moment I'm reading a Bill Bryson book about changes in the way we've lived over history. When I finish that I'm onto a book called "Dissolution" which has had very good reviews. Apparnetly it's a novel about a hunchback lawyer in Henry VIII's time who ends up solving crimes...it looks like it wil be good.
And sorry, this was a horrendously long ramble!!!!!
